Westcliff Lionesses finish their first season top of the table and winning the NC South East South 3 league, beating Burgess Hill RFC 14-51. Westcliff sit 6 points clear at the top of the table.

With Westcliff’s final game away to Burgess Hill, the lionesses set off in their mini buses, thanks to the support and sponsorship of Saint Pierre School in Leigh on Sea.

Westcliff’s forwards preformed scrum after scrum, showing their strength and Burgess Hill were feeling the pressure, which didn’t help Burgess Hill when the ball came out of the scrum, Sophie Scanlon ripped the ball and ran through to score the second try for the Lionesses, this was followed by Scanlon getting another over the line, just 4 minutes later. Carla Kraken made the 4th try of the first half for the Lionesses, taking the score to impressive 0-25. Maddie Davies finished off the first half with another try in the corner, going into half time 0-32.

The sun was starting to get warm and it was the Lionesses turn to play uphill. The second half started slowly for the Lionesses letting in 2 soft tries. Sophie Scanlon soon put pay to this, when she got her hands on the ball and scored. This followed soon after by an amazing Try by Maddie Davies, which she converted herself. With 5 minutes to go, Burgess Hill didn’t give up, and they fought hard to the end, this wasn’t enough when Maddie again crossed the line for the final time for Westcliff ‘s final league game of their first season. Leaving the final score at 14-51.

The Lionesses train every Mon & Thur 7pm-8.30pm at WRFC and all are invited to attend.
