Sunday 10.30 am – unless a match is arranged.
Boys and girls new to rugby are always welcome. Turn up at the Clubhouse on any Sunday in the season.
Mini Rugby starts from Under 6 and lasts until the Under 12 year group. Although rugby is a physical sport, young children are led into the various aspects of the game. Initially, the aim is to develop running, handling and co-ordination skills and stress the importance of team work, discipline and spirit. Up to age 12, girls train and play in the same matches as the boys. Even if parents have no experience of rugby, they can help and encourage their children. The Club runs coaching and refereeing courses. All Youth membership is Family membership and includes both parents.
HERE ARE SOME USEFUL TIPS FOR PARENTS NEW TO RUGBY
Training – takes place on Sunday mornings from 10.30 am till noon. Check with individual coach or manager. Matches – usually take place on Sunday mornings. If away, children are taken to the venue by parents so it may mean an earlier start.
Kit – WRFC play in maroon and gold hoops. Club shirts are provided for matches. Shorts and socks are available in the Club Kit Shop. Changing facilities (with showers) – allocated each week for those that require them. Parents are encouraged – to stay with their children during training and matches. Your encouragement is important to them and the Club.
Meal Tickets – are provided for a light meal on match days for players. Hot drinks and bacon rolls are usually on sale. Clothing – it is important to keep warm and dry. Make sure children are dressed appropriately. They can always remove layers. A hat and gloves are often forgotten. Boots – suitable footwear is needed. Can be football boots or trainers.
Child Protection – we have our own RFU trained Child Protection Officer who co-ordinates child protection issues. All our coaches and others working with children are CRB checked.
