Safeguarding

“The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in the sport. All children are entitled to feel safe and protected from any form of abuse and neglect, and have the right to take part in sport in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined within statutory guidance “Working Together to Safeguard Children” as protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.” – RFU Safeguarding Policy

The Club Safeguarding Officer (CSO), is the first point of contact for safeguarding and welfare concerns.

Trained by the RFU and kept up-to-date with newly released requirements and guidelines via regular “In Touch” workshops, the CSO develops Safeguarding training plans to promote best practice within the club, and ensure that all club officers and committee members are aware of their safeguarding responsibilities.

The CSO’s responsibilities include developing the clubs Safeguarding Policy to reinforce the RFU Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and the unique local circumstances of the club.  The Westcliff RFC Safeguarding Policy is available to all either below in the Useful Links and Information section, or from the Documents and Forms page within this website. The CSO is also here to support the welfare of children within the club, identifying any signs of harm or concerns and where necessary, reporting up to the RFU Safeguarding team.
